The Web as a New Communications Medium

I explored above some aspects of the ways in which the Web changes the nature of how traditional communication is influenced when communicated via this medium. Just as important, if not more so, is how the Web has altered the means by which writers can reach their audience, and what form(s) those communications can take. But the "social media" -YouTube, Twitter, Flickr - They're interactive, and tend to spawn additional sites and communities as quickly as each new compelling site is created. (Mcilroy 2009)

Why Twitter is Banned in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)?
The UAE has apparently banned Twitter because its content is “not consistent with the religious, cultural, political and moral values” of the country. However, according to Twitter cofounder Biz Stone (Hopkins 2009), in their defense, claimed that Twitter is still serving traffic to the region, and that he has not heard any reports that text messaging or instant messaging interaction with Twitter has been impacted.

YouTube Banned in Pakistan due to Anti-Islam Film
According to Jubel (2008), the Pakistan government blocked You Tube because of anti-Islamic videos showing cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad were posted on the site. Here's what Wilders has to say about his controversial film.

YouTube Ban in Other Countries as well

In March 2007, a court in Turkey blocked the site because some video clips insulted the Country’s founding father, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, which is considered to be illegal in Turkey. For further information regarding this, please log in to:
